Whiteley to Swanwick Station Cycle Route
Following consultations with the Highways Agency this scheme has now been redesigned to incorporate an off road pedestrian and cycle route on the East side of the A3051 Botley Road between Duncan Road and Rookery Avenue. As previously revealed the scheme will now avoid the expense of adjusting the bridge parapets at the railway and motorway bridges on the route, and the narrowed carriageway should contribute to speed management on this section of Botley Road.
The main works are on Botley Road and the route will be signed from the existing Toucan crossing on Whiteley Way along Rookery Avenue, Yew Tree Drive, Gull Coppice, along the greenway past the Mustang Avenue nature reserve, between Shetland Rise and Caspian Close and along Rookery Avenue, Swanwick to Botley Road. The route then follows Botley Road to Duncan Road and Swanwick railway station. The signs will read Solent Business Park and Swanwick Station and will indicate that the whole route is shared between cycles and pedestrians.
Once approved work onsite is expected to start in June or July and be constructed over the Summer holiday period in order to minimise disruption to traffic on Botley Road.
Consultation with other interested groups, such as the local residents associations, will be undertaken shortly to inform them of the proposals. Here are the plans for your perusal.
