Days:Hours:Minutes:Seconds until the Olympic tourch arrives in Fareham.
Torchbearers will carry the Olympic flame through Fareham this year on July 15 2012 as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. The Olympic flame will take an 8,000 mile journey to the Olympic Stadium in London.
Whiteley Primary School in Gull Coppice is one of 10 schools and colleges in Fareham participating in the Get Set network demonstrating a commitment to Olympic Values.
Thousands of villages, towns and cities across the nation have been chosen by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to bear the Olympic flame during the torch relay.
The 70-day Olympic Torch Relay, will start at Land’s End, Cornwall on May 19, 2012 and will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the country. There will be 8,000 torchbearers each of whom have a story of personal achievement and contribution to the community. Huge crowds are expected to line the streets when the famous flame weaves its way through Hampshire over three days in July, carried by a relay of specially-selected people through towns, villages and cities. The flame will travel through Fareham on July 15, less than a fortnight before the Games’ opening ceremony. It will start the morning with a trip to the Channel Islands, the flame will then visit Fareham and Gosport, including a trip on the Gosport Ferry.
The torch will be taken to the Olympic stadium on July 27 for the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony of the games.
